We have a really nice convection (i think) oven at home to which i've never done justice. past baking escapades have always been.. well, lets just say everything used to come out of the oven one colour - black.

Until last week! I was pretty skeptical about the brownies but since some ex colleagues were coming over to bake (and i could share the 'glory' if they didn't turn out well :S), we did! and it was pretty yum, although feedback came later that it was too dry :S.

Anyhow, with that confidence boost, i decided to try apple crumble today:

Not bad right?! hahaha my mom thought it was good so i guess it was really nubbad =) think she was probably relieved that i could make something not half bad haha. although, it is kinda hard to screw up crumble :S

now there are even more recipes i wanna try yay =D carrot cake nexttt =)

side note: had dinner with parents & sis at this Peranakan restaurant today.. super yum! my mom really loved the ngo hiang.. i pretty much loved everything! ayam buah keluak.. otak.. fish maw soup... *slurps* plus i developed this new love for good chilli! heh. tho i think i'm sticking to elementary level chilli for now :S

hello! i'm back (sorta)

Blogger went all wonky a while back and was a pain to use.

I've also been extremely busy trying to adjust back to student life :/

Work ended on 23rd Oct and school started (after a grand 2-day break) on 26th Oct. As much as I miss my colleagues (thanks v much for the lunch & gifts!), I'm glad I've found some nice people at school too =).

The amount of reading has been unbelievable :| keeping up with all the reading resulted in a very, VERY tired me and i kinda find reading a chore now.. I'll try to persevere though if not I'll regret it later on :S

ok.. back to reading!

Hokkaido was great =) we had a v interesting/funny tour leader, a cool bus driver and best of all a cute tour guide (hehe).

A first!
I got me my FIRST box(es) of contact lenses today hurhur. I've found my glasses to be a bother in some situations (like frames getting in the way while watching movies).. and so I've been contemplating getting some contacts.

Since I was on leave today, decided that there was no better time than now to get some. Very grateful to the guy at the shop who was very patient in teaching me how to put them on (it took me many tries before I got it right :S), and Julz too who was very nice to wait then send me home =D

I had a pretty good weekend despite a pretty sad Friday.. Spent A LOT, but thankfully, all well thought out investments that should last for some time.

By the by, Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist? Nice! Slumdog Millionaire? Nice!

Man.. back to work tomorrow... and I'm dreaming of the coming weekend already. hur.

okay. so today wasn't all that bad. i was expecting worse..

i did have a nubbad weekend, albeit shadowed by the horrible previous week.. but the folks and i had a great mother's day celebration at Lei Garden =DD spent a bomb but we were glad to know that Mom enjoyed it! she was fascinated with the grainy fish and v huge shou4 tao2 with bird's nest in it.. and i got to have Peking Duck too! yum.

i learnt today just how useful keeping a blog is... was trying very very hard to remember when exactly i did my internship at TLL but i'd lost both email accounts that contained information on it. dear dear Ziyi very cleverly reminded me that i could check my past entries to find out cos she remembered seeing stuff about internship =D Thanks dearie =) so yes, we were at TLL from 1 Jun 06 till 21 Jul 06.

gotta remember to write that down somewhere...

in other news, i bought a new lamp! its wonderfully bendy so i can illuminate any part of the corner of my room where i planted the lamp.. now i can practice hand shadow puppets on my wall =)

Had the worst week. So much rushing and scrutinizing, raised my voice a couple of times and sighed a whole lot.

I might have lost my spatial awareness:

1. While walking over to SAFRA Mt Faber for a swim last Thursday, stubbed my toe (last on right foot) on a curb and lost half a toenail

2. In a rush to respond to my Mom calling me to go eat fruit last Friday, I opened the door without realising that my toe (2nd on right foot) was in the way. A little rectangle of skin is now gone and my toe still hurts =(

3. Walked my shoulder right into the side of a doorway today.

4. Closed the door of a toilet stall with my hand still holding on to the door. Closed the door on my finger... ouch.

oh well. gonna plough on with the work leftover from today and munch on my ~~high class Kit Kat~~ Toggi bar.

I'd been planning to cut my hair all week.. so much so that i kinda announced to any who would listen that i wanted to get my hair cut, but alas! i woke up this morning and thought my hair looked nubbad, so no haircut. haha. went for a swim instead.. pool tasted kinda salty (ew.).

The monkeys at Lower Peirce Reservoir are so scary!

On the way with Dad to Lower Peirce, he dispensed some words of wisdom in the car:

When taking photos of monkeys, don't concentrate until you forget your surroundings cos the monkeys will jump on you

Needless to say I laughed.. cos monkeys only what right?

Anyway. While driving in, we saw this monkey on one of the short cement posts (okay i really dunno wat you call them but they're just those short things that look like cement stools interspersed on the side of the road). It was in front of the car so my dad was like "ok i wind down the windows you try to take picture okay cos it looks quite cute like that." haha ok so I got ready and he wound the windows down.

haha big mistake.

the minute the windows started moving the monkey hopped over to the post next to my window and looked like it was about to conveniently hop in the open window lor! I freaked out and was all "DAD CLOSE THE WINDOWWWWWWW!!!!"

scaree. but I did manage to see one little monkey accidentally do a forward roll which was pretty cute.

Honestly, i'm so woozy now i don't think i'm capable of stringing a proper sentence. I've been playing too much of Bejeweled Blitz (which FYI i've gotten a 162,600 high score haha!) on FB in addition to doing proper things o.O but here's the week's update anywayz:

Working through a full week plus fulfilling after-work engagements after 2 shortshort work weeks is REALLY tiring! and i had a pretty busy one at that, rushing for a big-ish project that isn't like any of the previous stuff i've done.. lots of new questions and considerations to think through.

Jac & i also went for our 2nd photography lesson and i must say i'm enjoying it! the teacher is hilariously corny and so far is quite effective in making us understand stuff, my only gripe is that the classroom is too tiny and the chairs give me a butt-ache haha. Nonetheless, it really is something that i look forward to each week =D

Hung out with ZY (who's in KL now lucky monkey) after work on weds and we got us some new footwear yay! and went to shop for Jac's bday gift with her and JY on thurs, i'm vvv happy that we managed to get something that she liked! and really, the timing of her bday couldn't be better =D Happy Birthday girlie

And finalllyyyy the week ended off wonderfully with evergreen steamboat at JY's place......... many laughs, great company and heaps of food =D

I now have dark rings around my eyes and i'm starting to get worried that they won't go away after SF lectured me yday for not getting enough sleep and saying that i'm not young anymore and the eye rings won't just go away like they did in the past :/

My life needs an overhaul

That emerged while skimming through accumulated emails today. Time to put some of the ideas that I've been toying with to action =)

Was having dinner with my folks just now when my mom told me about her colleagues who came over for lunch today:

Mom: Oh this girl is 34 and from the St Nick's also you know? She's getting married later this year.
Me: Oh, 34 ah? Means I have 10 more years hor?
Mom: er. ya *unconvincing smile*

and i'm back from Bangkok! the trip was definitely effective in taking my mind off the stuff i wanted to take my mind off and i've come back ready to tackle them =)

So the last time i was there with Julz we mostly shopped. This time with YJ packed more varied experiences. Some of the highlights:

Ayutthaya:

We took a train down on the 2nd day from the Hualamphong Railway Station for about 1.5 hours to the ancient city. There're many travel agencies in Bangkok that organize day tours to Ayutthaya itself but its pretty expensive for something you can do yourself at a fraction of the price.

So anyway, our chosen mode of transportation at Ayutthaya:

better than having the tuk-tuk man following you around all day but of course i was fried by the end of the couple of hours we were there and kinda turned red like lobster (and also like the time i went to Rider's Cafe and walked there). Anyway, many ancient temples at Ayutthaya but YJ said it was more like an appetiser for Angkor Wat and i'm sure ZY would concur (hope QY will settle in soon and maybe we can arrange a trip there). Ayutthaya also wasn't really what we had envisioned it would be, thought maybe it would be a little more deserted :S but i guess if there was a city there before, makes sense for people to settle there now too.

Shopping:

Bangkok really is a good place for shopping... There're shops/stalls e.v.e.r.y.w.h.e.r.e.... but after going to most of the shopping places, I would say if I ever set foot in Bangkok again, I'd zero in on 3 places:

1. Platinam - super big shopping centre with lots of stuff that you can typically buy from everywhere in Bangkok, think maybe can bargain a bit also but probably won't be able to stray too far from the original quoted price. It helps if you're buying more of the same thing (like maybe 3 bags or 3 t-shirts) cos they'll give you a cheaper bulk price. It was a most pleasant surprise to meet Daren near Platinam/Pantip area too! pity it didn't occur to me to take a picture with him.. don't even meet the guy in the streets here!

2. MBK/Siam Square - Good place to walk around and the prices are already pretty cheap by Sgp standards i feel. There's a cinema at the top of MBK that has vvvvv good and comfortable seats =D. We watched Knowing there, and besides the comfort of the seats, the show was most retarded (i seldom condemn movies entirely but this was just... horrible), i'll admit i was spooked at the beginning, but when the spaceship appeared i was just... speechless. in a bad way of course. Weird show with a ridiculous ending.

3. Khao San - If i had to describe Khao San in 1 word, i would say, "Flavourful". It really embodies what Bangkok is to the world (as opposed to Singaporeans). A very colourful place teeming with tourists from all over. As you walk down the road, the occasional music that blares from one of the speakers get to you and you'd feel like dancing (i know i did but i was in broad daylight and hadn't had any courage-giving drink).

The shopping there also seems to be cheaper compared to other places but since we'd already done our shopping we didn't buy much.

We saw some dancers rehearsing at the end of Khao San Road and were thoroughly amused cos their whole routine seemed to comprise entirely of voguing and spirit fingers (yea! the actual ones from Bring It On). They were dancing to Vogue though so i guess that was pretty apt.

Khao San itself has many inns and there're more at the nearby Phra Athit as well. The idea of staying there and perhaps chilling every night at one of the watering holes with music after a day of walking sounds v good. I would stay at Phra Athit cos it seems quieter.

We'd also visited Suan Lum Night Bazaar and Chatuchak Weekend Market. Once again, I'd only managed to get stuff from Suan Lum, maybe cos Chatuchak was wayy too hot :S but still, the shops at Suan Lum tend to charge higher and more unwilling to budge about the prices.

Scams:

Unfortunately, we were scammed there too =( "Friendly Thais" would approach you telling you that you shouldn't go to places you wanna go for watever reasons and they'd offer you alternatives like tailoring or jewellery shops. Very bad and time wasting. But i would say at least it didn't turn out worse and they'd only managed to scam abt S$4 off us.

I learned a lot more about Bangkok this time and its unlikely that i'd go back anytime soon. But if i do maybe i'd take a side trip over to Kanchanaburi to see the Erawan Falls =).

The family and I visited the temple today and managed to say hi to a grandma there who was my late grandma's friend.

She's so cute! Whenever we visited her in the past, she'd launch into this speech about how we should eat healthily and also ask if I or my sister are attached. She'll then proceed with a lecture on how we should look and choose future partners carefully and if we can't 'see' clearly she'll lend us her glasses.

Today however, after the food speech, she continued with something like this:

On the way back home from work yesterday in my dad's car, I happened to see a little kid and some teenagers walking on a pavement barefoot after the rain:

Great end to a work day

ZY and I have been wanting to visit Sentosa since ever. So, we made a spur of the moment decision to make our way over to the little island after work (location of our office finally pays off)!

We went on the Skyride and Luge (first time for me the swakoo haha) and had a v good dinner by the sea, enjoying the mini fireworks display.. all in the span of 2.5 hours! =)

It was a wonderful end to our otherwise mundane workday. Thanks ZY for the company =D

Moving on to a separate issue altogether... how annoying is it when people say "I'm like that, why can't you accept me the way I am?!" in response to feedback (delivered in a calm and reasonable way) that they have been behaving in an utterly disrespectful manner. Is that really even an excuse to forgive annoying character flaws? What happened to taking constructive criticism and continuously improving oneself? baaahhhh.

On a separate note.. I've been fascinated by a new type of ant that has invaded my office desk recently. I've encountered 2 jumping ants! SF tried to tell me a few weeks ago that she saw ants that could jump and I brushed her enthusiasm aside claiming that ants could not possibly jump since their legs aren't like grasshoppers. But lo and behold! I'm sorry SF I've wronged u! those ants really jump when they feel threatened by your advancing hand! I just did a quick wiki search and found this:

"Some species are capable of leaping. For example, Jerdon's jumping ant (Harpegnathos saltator) is able to jump by synchronising the action of its mid and hind pairs of legs."

The office ants look nothing like the Harpegnathos tho :S

I had a not so good weekend.

Well, the bulk of it wasn't so bad...

Managed to catch He's Just Not That Into You with ZH on Friday evening. I LOVED IT. In fact, I'll buy the dvd when it comes out! its like Love Actually, 'cept no Christmas-y feel, and HJNTIY felt more realistic.. I think. Anyway I like Scar Jo and thought the casting was very well done =D

I'd also caught Cashback yesterday! Which kinda saved my otherwise crappy Saturday.

I had a crappyyyy Saturday cos was called back last minute to office for half a day boohoo.

Gong Hei Fatt Choy everybody =D

It has been a relatively good week! usual busy-ness on the 1st 2 days of the Lunar NY, but this year i took leave on the 3rd day! since everybody else had to work, it was a great chance to just relax and mooch around the house heh

went back to work on Thursday (i wouldn't say happy but) contented that i had a day to rest.

Teambuilding was on Friday............... It wasn't very physically taxing, but most of us found ourselves tired by the time it was over... of course laughing till our cheeks hurt was kinda tiring haha but i don't think it was enough to cause our fatigue.

Went for dinner with Jac and YJ at Tang Dian Wang which was nice =) Ginseng Chicken Soup was pretty good! Though seriously black chicken sorta freaks me out a little (i still can't really grasp the concept of a black skinned chicken and the meat is like grey grey :S) but i'm more than happy to slurp up the soup =DD.

I bought a Rendition DVD (Jake Gyllenhaal yay!) and the OST to Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging! so many movies to watch and books to read!!!

inspire me, please. i think i'm suffering from a bout of overthinking.

i had a wonderful weekend! long weekend! went to a play with my folks on saturday, then we had 2 consecutive evenings of bbq! first night was with Sc6-ers. i've not seen one bunch of them like that in ages =D it was great, and i'm so thankful it didn't turn out boring cos it was much lesser than full attendance.

Mon night was spent bbq'ing the leftovers from sunday. oh i love love love that as well! hanging out with just the family, bbq-ing stuff at our own pace and preference, having the tv nearby also a plus =) and marshmallows! introduced my dad to the joy of toasting marshmallows =D

my sister commented more than once over the weekend that i was quirky. hiya. just because i strike random wushu poses sometimes doesn't mean i'm weird okay.

yoohoo! haven't updated much this week. it was rather pleasant =D non-work wise that is...

since i was feeling like i've not talked talked with Mad in ages (even tho she sits near me at work) and also Jac n i have been wanting to try this place for a while, we decided to head over Vivocity after work to try it out =D initially, we were the only customers there =S so i was a bit apprehensive.. heh. i had the smoked salmon sandwich and the girls tried the savoury crepes =D nubbad, but i felt it was a tad expensive. we also ordered the tiramisu - that was yummy =D i suppose i'd go back for the dessert more than anything else on the menu.

i'd been feeling under the weather for the whole week too, with Thursday being particularly bad since i couldn't get to sleep on Wednesday night due to a cough. BUT, since i had Friday off, i was determined to enjoy it. was supposed to go with Ziyi to Sentosa but since i didn't feel up to the action-packed stuff that we originally planned, Ziyi was a dear to accomodate me and settle for a day at Orchard instead. not much was achieved on the shopping front, but we did talk alot, and we ate A LOT too! Since ZY felt like dim sum, we went to Kam Boat at Shaw Centre =) its good! each har gow had 3 super fresh prawns in it =DDD after that we had dessert at Canele: praline ice cream and macaroons =D the ice cream was really yummy, macaroons were enjoyable too though i found it a tad sweet. maybe next time i'll try the ones with the vanilla cream filling. i really hope ZY didn't catch my flu though since she was probably shrouded in a cloud of germs while hanging out with me =S still it was wonderful company and i thoroughly enjoyed my day.

ahh, and today was the first Saturday i didn't have anything planned =D noooo thinggg. so i slept the whole day haha and really, i feel so so so much better! my runny nose is almost gone (i think) but i still go into a sneezing fit every now and then. i did have a dinner outing with my family though. we went to this little corner kopitiam near Macpherson to have pomfret steamboat, some prawn nuggets (i really don't know how to spell it the way they call it in Hokkien, but it translates to something like prawn date, like u know red date?) and some prawn paste chicken =D yumz!

really terrible that i don't have the habit of taking a camera around now, always regret when i wanna show everybody pics of the yummy food =(

Ziyi had been wanting to bring me to try this place for the longest time. Unfortunately our prior attempts have failed due to many unexpected events. We managed to find the time today though, so off we went to Sakuraya =) it was quite special, you get to choose reasonably priced slabs of sashimi before they slice it up for you! theres a Japanese supermart attached to the eatery as well stocked with various Japanese snacks and a whole array of Japanese curries of different brands.

Super full, i think we kinda over-ordered on the sushi part :S, the place was also kinda squishy.. but on the whole it was a rather pleasant meal =) thanks Ziyi!

We then headed over to harbourfront, not without taking the wrong bus that turns into some road that doesn't lead to harbourfront -_- so we did a lot of walking.. and although Jac did remind me that heels might make me regret, i still wore the heels... lo n behold i have 2 painful blisters now =( ah well, had to break in that pair of shoes sometime right?

we had a good chat on the way home though! so it really was a very nice night =)

managed to buy wassants too! woohoo!

totally enjoying my duper long weekend! all thanks to the nat'l day off-in-lieu + the fact that its juli's bday & shes back for the weekend + i'm so super stressed from work, i decided to take 2 days!

and boy i spent (am spending) it well!

woke up at 9 plus on friday morning, but i did have to yell that i was on leave at 6 in the morning cos everybody thought i was being lazy/late for work =(

anyhoo! pottered around the house for a bit before heading down to AquaMarine at Marina Mandarin for birthday lunch with Juli! not too bad, but i think i really don't like oysters =( but the sashimi, fried chicken & dessert selection were none too shabby! wootwoot~ took some lousy pics so i won't post. but anyway thanks Juli for the crabtrees!

well anyway the real reason why our lunch was at Marina was cos Comex 2008 was there! =D and i needed an ext hard disk =) so we traipsed on over to a very crowded Suntec Convention Centre (seriously, i was kinda hoping that i'd be the only one on leave, but alas, it was not meant to be). Got my ext hard disk and some brochures for my dad before heading on to Toa Payoh for pearl milk tea =)) and then home. barely tore through the packaging of my new storage, my dad came back, we had a quick discussion about what new stuff he wanted to get, a call to YJ to see if he wanted to go to Comex and off i went to brave the Suntec Mob again! wa i tell you it was short persons' hell to walk throught City Link at 7 last friday man! it was the faint-also-won't-fall-down sorta crowd la! in any case, walked some more at Comex and bought some more stuff! Thanks YJ for lending an arm and your time! Sorry about the terrible coffee!

so that was my pretty action-packed friday =)

did some constructive stuff on saturday too =) tuition, and the evening saw me at Fort Canning with ZH to catch Make it Happen & My Sassy Girl (the Hollywood versh). Frankly, i thought My Sassy Girl wouldn't be so good, but i enjoyed it! and i saw Glenn Ong! stupid me forgot to bring camera there, but not like can take a lot of pics it was so dark. was quite nice to stretch out on the picnic mat and the weather was kind too =) another idiot thing was i forgot to bring my glasses. so i was pretty much like this =_= the whole night. otherwise, it was indeed a saturday well-spent. although i do wonder how come there's still grass at Fort Canning considering there're people stepping/sitting on it every other week (i do know there's Funktion going on there next week too)

Today was a regular eat porridge/go shopping with family day.. =) waiting to meet Juli again for teh later =D

so the weekend was kinda boring... basically i've been in the wanna-just-go-home-and-sleep mood.... i've been catching up on season 2 of ugly betty tho! its really pretty good and i'm suffering from betty withdrawal now cos the season ended with a big cliffhanger =( but if i could make a choice for betty, i say:

i'm happy to announce that the watermelon frost is working... the swelling has went down so I look relatively normal and not so much like i'm having an allergic reaction.

and one of the ulcers seem to have reduced in size

however there is an inexplicable appearance of a 4th ulcer. i really can't tell if its been there all along since previously i was too distraught about the whole swollen-ness to really take note =( but it does seem to fit the teeth marks... so i suppose its been there....

yay. its national day today but i'm not really feeling any of it.. only felt slightly hot for the people at some national day carnival i saw just now.

i'm feeling more pain than anything else cos i'm plagued with ulcers =( i bit my lip on monday during lunch and the bite wounds kinda evolved into a whopping 3 ulcers. i tried bonjela (which doesn't really work), salt (instantaneous tears!)... and now i've turned to Watermelon Frost - the panacea of Chinese traditional oral cavity and throat disease. which is supposed to be "effective in a moment". I hope it works, if not everybody's gonna think i'm suffering from some strange disease.

sigh. i guess eating at Popeye's at the flyer was a bad idea...
but it was just so yummy! and we can't find popeye's at just anywhere in Singapore you know... right girls?

anyway, the flyer experience was so so, but like most other outings, its the company that counts! i guess we all had a nice light-hearted evening =) for the uninitiated who're not sure what they can do on the flyer, heres how we spent our time:we took a ton of pictures.. so bring a camera if u're thinking of flying if not u won't know what to do with ur hands. =)

besides taking pictures of ourselves, we took pictures of our feet....
we took pictures of buildings...
and we took pictures of other capsules... although its not so clear here yep.. thats about it.. we were so tired we went home straight after to sleep....

okay, i'm off for a bbq! my ulcers are so gonna explode =(

Tried Cheeky Chocolates on friday with my sis, Ruth and Kelvin. Managed to find a parking space there so it was a good start =) The boss of the place was really nice and could see that he was really trying to make his customers feel welcomed.. the staff were quite nice and attentive also.

we shared a fondue set: molten Valrhona Chocolate with little bowls of strawberries, almond biscuits, banana, kiwi, marshmallows.. i can't really tell the difference between this one and the fondues i've tried but it tasted pretty good =) we were too full to try the other desserts and also didn't buy the chocolates that they offered.. will probably go back again to try the other stuff.. the place closes at 1 am on fridays and saturdays so its great for weekend after dinner desserts =) plus its near home hohohoho

and last night my mom had some friends over so it was yum for my tum again! haha roast chicken.. steamed fish.. yummy veggies.. and fuzhou fish balls.. mmmmmm....

and theres more!

this morning we had breakfast with granddad at west coast macs. ya ya its not very yum i know.. but after that we went to pasir panjang veggie wholesale market and bought some ginormous strawberries! and cherries, and lychees (which i don't really like cos heaty).. can't wait to eat =) maybe i can grab some chocolate to melt and eat with the berries.

and to finish off the weekend... i dated my folks out for dinner at Mellben Seafood for some crab beehoon and butter crab... shiiiiiiiiiiiooooooooookkkkkkkkkkkkkk! the whole world has been telling me about their crabby escapades and all i could do was drool =( but aha 'twas my turn! i felt the butter crab was more shiok than the one in the beehoon but i guess when we got started on the bee hoon i was rather stuffed already... we also had some rojak from the stall nearby.. the rojak was also very good! the uncle was super busy so u can imagine how good the rojak is..

yep. so that was my food weekend.. next weekend.. Hong Kong!

short update about my phone which is still lying at the phone repair shop:

- received a call on friday from phone shop man informing me to go collect my repaired phone. heart gave a joyful leap and headed down to phone shop before going home for dinner.
- reached the phone shop and found that phone could be switched on! heart danced around in happiness! although the thingamajig that held the stylus in its place was welded on rather crudely, which resulted in the stylus looking a bit sunken when its back in its place. heart dropped a tad.
- as the phone regained its life, found this stupid annoying msg: "for emergency calls only". which meant that phone cannot be used cos something wrong with the reception. heart sank, but not as low as it did before when it fell into the jamban.
- went back home sans phone. boohoo.

so well. thats the update in a nutshell.. and now i can't believe i actually updated about a miserable phone! my life is b.o.r.a.n.g.

and on to other thoughts... a trip to NY or Spain next year is sounding pretty good right about now... of course, availability of funds would be a huge deciding factor =_= so i'll have to wait an see.. in the meantime.. anybody share the same traveling idea?

ah. and i love love love Pushing Daisies! Anna Friel and Lee Pace are the cutest on-screen couple =) i guess i'm saying this cos i just saw them on tv some minutes ago hehe.

wow. i spent the last 3 evenings with elena, all evenings with different people. and now i'm starting to yammer away in her signature hyena-like speech o.O

had dinner with elena and jac on thursday, leaving jac thoroughly amused by e's antics.. friday's dinner was at my place... lotsa laughs too! and finally last night was with e and bertie doing the things we usually did in acjc times: eating at nydc and watching movie at lido. haven't been to nydc in ages! but the menu like never change leh...

we watched The Incredible Hulk which was pretty great! although i liked Iron Man more. totally loved the ending and so looking forward to the subsequent movies =D

i'm so glad to know friends are coming back one by one =D. its like the return of the prodigal friends! i hope bert comes back soon.................... and jia! but that'll be only for a short while...

its like a rut i cannot get out of

starts with a thought. develops into hope. hype forms around the hope. disappointment. residual hope excruciatingly crushed. hopelessness. recovery. and the cycle starts again.

sometimes the magnitude is larger, sometimes much smaller, but one thing for sure is.. i never quite learn and reap from each cycle, i'll just cartwheel happily into the next one (metaphorically, of course. my cartwheeling skills leave much to be desired)

wa. ok my weekend was great! so much so that when i got to work today, i was still drifting in weekend mode o_Owent to red star yesterday with my parents, sis and grandpa.. haven't been there in eons! amazing seeing my grandpa randomly walking around the place and finding his friends all over.. its cool man! unfortunately, the porridge and the sesame paste wasn't as good as before... =( now i'm craving peanut pasteeeee!

been trying to attain the state of being fully awake since eyes opened at 830 this morning. woke up at 830, answered some smses, washed up at 840, wandered around the house, dug up some apple cranberry juice from the fridge, drank that.. ate some oat porridge.. watched some tv.. wandered back into my room and here i am, still half asleep, and just realised that i'm supposed to be meeting jon and gang at 12 noon.

wa lau. never tell me earlier.

so anyway.. very tiring/stressful week.. with all things possible getting in the way of true productive work =( but of course ended off quite nicely again (as with all weeks) via dinner with ziyi =) went to look for her at NUH after my course ended.. then she made me wait for like an hour more before she could knock off.. and lemme tell ya, its kinda hard to do anything within the vicinity of NUH if u're not working/studying there or nearby man.

so being the adventurer i am (i know, u're scoffing, but i understand... i'd scoff too) i wandered around the grounds of the hospital and behold... i found the BLOOD DONATION CENTRE on a signboard with a little arrow directing me there =) so i went to donate blood.. almost couldn't tho! my first temperature reading was like 37.9.. but the next one was 37.2... think it's cos of the hot tea i had earlier on... and my veins are apparently very fine.. the nurse was a bit scared (not scared to tell me that she was scared tho haha), but she succeeded! haha lucky her and me.. tho i kinda knew it'd be ok since previous nurses had no problem heh.

anyway. time well spent eh?

so later on traipsed over to clarke quay with ziyi.. we kinda walked by every possible eatery in the vicinitly before settling into Da Mario Pizzeria @ Robertson Quay.. Its good! very nice little cozy space, had their salami pizza and calamari with tartar sauce that both ziyi n i loved =) super filling! but we still went for dessert at
Nectarie.. not so smart choice even tho the dessert was not bad.. couldn't finish the waffles and strudel we ordered =( but all in all, very nice night! will definitely go back to the pizza place again =D

i had so many thoughts on my way home i walked right past my house without noticing it.. the thoughts continued to swim and develop in my mind while i was in the shower.. i so much wanted to blog down everything i was thinking of....

but alas! it was not meant to be... the moment i curled up comfortably on my bed and hit the lappie's power switch, the thoughts were relegated to the abyss.. how unfortunate.

work has been busy.. and i feel so cautious and self-conscious nowadays its making me tired.. i guess i need to fill my life with more other than work man.

anyway. i can't believe Sharon Stone said this! its already so sad that lives have been lost.. no reason to add salt to the wound now right?!

okay. its time to stare aimlessly into the goggle box while i drift off to sleep again... later folks!

its official, a good breakfast on a saturday morning puts me in a good mood for the rest of the day. =) in fact, i was in such a good mood, johndoe actually managed to sell the idea of buying this today. and so i bought it! i'm acty quite happy with the buy heh.

and now i'm really tired. cos hung out with gerald marcus and vynesh till late last night (thanx guys for accommodating my preferences at settler's and not playing those moon-craft-shadow-people-fight-to-the-death type games =)).. and then i hung out some more with my work lappie after i came back =(

met cliff after walking around the city hall area for the whole day for some dinner.. then came back to play with my new toy =) which has pretty much sucked the remaining energy i had in me... so i think i'll watch a little tv then turn in early tonight..

curses. i've got some sort of strange nocturnal diarrhoea. which caused me to double over in pain at 3 am in the morning. talk about rude awakening man. face was totally white on my way to work.. but after some warm barley drink i was ok for the rest of the day. nocturnal diarrhoea... got such thing or not huh?

plus! i have this stupid persistent cough which has been sticking around for weeks. #$%@# now when i cough while standing up, my lower back hurts. what the hell?!

anyhow. super tired today cos last nite got bad sleep right? so kinda zombied through the day... went to sushi tei for lunch with wongfun and chinyee tho... wootz! please don't say things like "diarrhoea still eat".. i've been having a bad week man! at least i can control whether i wanna kill my stomach or not hor

anywayz, been thinking abt the 101 deeds in 1001 days that jac told me about. honestly i don't think i can come up with 101 things i wanna do, but heres a few la:

1. go and re-learn my piano.. none of that exam crap tho, just for leisure purposes y'know? to relieve stress! i might get one of those keyboards and put in my room so that i can play really badly and nobody can hear hahah! then when its good i can go play on the real piano to wow my mom (who's been nagging me abt this hahaha)

2. get another degree.. i love to learn.. this time i can do something different from the science and logic that i'm so used to.. maybe will have good effect on my self-development leh! but this one, to get in 1001 days, i try la but no promises.

3. appreciate my parents more.. words cannot express my gratitude to them. i am in absolute awe of their unconditional support. therefore to start, i'm gonna help my dad play with the new camera after i finish this post (wat? he tasked me to do it ok?)

4. this is paired with no. 2, i guess i've never really thought much about this.. but i definitely need to do some planning for myself if not when i'm 70 i'm gonna be so pissed that i just let my life go down the crapper like that

weeeell... thats about it! these things i think i should be able to achieve, hopefully i'll think of more next time =)

the past few days have been a continuous emotional downward spiral that kinda hit bottom today.. totally felt the sian-ness setting in.. had the serious tuesday blues also man... kinda feel like the ball in the pinball machine... after bouncing around at the top for a few months, once in a while have to drop to the bottom

one can only stay positive for so long right?
i can only hope next week will be better!

heyyyyyyyyyyyy long weekend! so very happy =) cos i woke up today thinking "ehhh its sunday tmr must work a-bloody-gainnnnn" then i realised that monday = vesak day hohoho =D

anw. lovely weekend i must say:
1. friday - dinner with elena again! this time, after much deliberation on the part of ms chong, we ended up having dinner at the food court at marina square... seemed kind of a killjoy after browsing through all the yummy looking eateries o_O but hey it was great man! we sat outside so we had a pretty nice view =)

2. saturday - breakfast with ziyi again! wonderful, this time was at breko =D i must say i'm really liking this saturday morning breakfast thing.. not that i'm over-eating tho, the breakfast usually keeps me full for a big part of the day =) so anyway if u'd like to breakfast on sat morning let me know! next 2 saturdays i'm free =D

3. went to do a little shopping after breakfast.... miss selfridge got sale! hahaha needless to say i had to buy something... 2 tops! and i bought a Gotan Project CD too! yay

4. watched Made of Honour with cliff just now... v nice! also watched blue crush and 2 weeks notice (again) on tv last nite.. mmm i love movies

5. spent time with my family as well.. think i'm also going out with my folks tmr for some camera window shopping =D

you know how it is... when you don't have a care in the world (other that work that is, i.e. things that really matter to your being), you don't really see/notice anything around you.. everything's pretty much normal y'know?

then something in your head goes "click"

and all of a sudden you're noticing all sorts of things that lead you right back to the thought that went click in your brain... and by all sorts of things, i mean everything! from people on the streets... to songs... to random objects you pick up while packing your room... you name it!

maybe that can explain the uncharacteristic surge in nonsensical posts recently... i mean, i could say that i'm working towards celebrating the 200th post.. but who am i kidding right? haha

anyway.. the test today was not too bad... so i don't totally regret not putting much effort into studying... but i did study okay!

mm. i'm still trying to find a new blog skin... so that i can house the tagboard, links and blog all in the same page... so difficult to find man.. wish me luck!

Happy Mother's Day! Just downloaded Picasa... dunno how come it installed itself in Mandarin and now to use it i have to decipher all the words before every move... Well anyway... had a v filling dinner and i think my mom liked it too...
